My comfort food- Fried Cabbage with dried shrimp 虾米炒包菜



This is my another comfort Chinese food. Is that yours too? I love all dishes with Hae Bee (dried shrimp), It has a distinct aroma that make all dishes taste so addictive and appetizing.
What are the dishes with dried shrimp? The famous Laksa, hae bee hiam (prawn roll) etc.
Just like prawn with shell, Dried shrimp is rich in protein, iron, calcium and vitamins. The amount of dried shrimp I used, only give us 13 calories. With cabbage to go with it, it is definitely a healthy dish.
Very simple to prepare and easy to cook. Only need 2 ingredients: cabbage and dried shrimps , with some seasoning. And it goes so well with rice. Sometimes I eat it on its own too.



(Serve 2 - 4 pax)
Ingredients:
1/2 Cabbage 包菜切片 (cut into pieces)
10-15 dried shrimps (wash and dried) 虾米
1 tsp minced garlic  蒜末

Seasoning:
1 tbsp Oyster sauce  蚝油
3 tbsp chicken stock   鸡汤
pinch of white pepper  少许胡椒粉

Method:
1. Heat oil in wok.  热锅烧油
2. Saute dried shrimp till aroma.  爆香虾米
3. Add mince garlic and continue frying. 加蒜末继续爆香
4. Add cabbage  加包菜
5. Add chicken stock, oyster sauce, white pepper and simmer for 15 minutes. 加鸡汤、蚝油、胡椒粉焖煮15分钟
6. Check for tenderness after 15 minutes. 查看是否是你要的软度
7. Ready to serve. 即可上桌

虾米炒包菜是我的喜欢的另一道家常菜。也是你的吗?材料很简单也很容易煮。是我的懒人美食。
任何虾米料理我都爱,尤其是虾米辣椒、Laksa、虾米卷等等。
虾米其实富含丰富的蛋白质、铁质、钙质和维生素,是女性的恩物。搭配蔬菜更是健康美食。我所用的虾米只含13卡路里,吃多了也不会胖。

Royal Caribbean vs Genting Dream Cruise: Which is better? 皇家加勒比游轮 vs 云顶星梦游轮

Are you planning for a cruise holiday soon?




Those follow my IG or FB, will know that every year we will plan for our cruise holiday. For the past years we have tried Royal Caribbean - 2 times in Mariner of the Sea and 1 time at Ovation of the Sea. This year we decided to try something different - we tried Dream Cruise for the first time and we are impressed by the following:

- Room: Dream Cruise Room seems slightly bigger than Royal Caribbean Cruise. And toilet is much bigger too.
- Royal Caribbean has compulsory mustering, whereby Dream Cruise demonstrate safety exercise via TV.
- Pillow: Dream Cruise pillows are fluffier as compared to Royal Carribean.
- Food: Royal Caribbean served more western food compare to Dream Cruise. Dream Cruise serve dim sum on breakfast. And authentic ala carte chinese dishes for lunch and dinner.
- Last day : Besides Farewell party, Dream Cruise also show us fireworks.

To summarise, if you are adventurous, love sport, think mustering is important and enjoy room service, you will like Royal Caribbean.
If you are a foodie, like fluffy pillow, want big toilet and enjoy fireworks , then you will enjoy Dream Cruise.

我喜欢美食和旅游。相信你也和我一样,我一直想找关于这两家邮轮对比的影片和资料,但是一直找不到答案,于是我亲自体验了,也做了比较并希望用影片分享我的看法,也希望能给你一些答案。 朋友都知道我喜欢去邮轮旅行,所以常问我的问题是?到底Royal Caribbean皇家加勒比国际游轮好玩还是Dream Cruise星梦游轮好玩? 老实说,对比之下,我觉得Dream Cruise的房间好像比Royal Caribbean的大一点,而且厕所也比较大。 Royal Caribbean需要集体集合到指定地点参加安全演习。而Dream Cruise一入住就可以休息不需到外面集合,因为安全演习是通过电视和广播提醒的。 Dream Cruise的枕头也比Royal Caribbean的松软有弹性,这点对我的睡眠很重要,因为我喜欢有弹性的枕头才睡得着。 至于美食和餐馆,我比较喜欢中餐,也很注重美味,所以我会投Dream Cruise一票! 不得不提最后一天的活动。星梦和皇家加勒比游轮都有举行狂欢party。不过星梦游轮除了超high 的party外还会放长达10分钟的烟火! 总结之前所作的比较: 如果你喜欢冒险、爱做运动、对安全演习很注重,也喜欢room service 那你会喜欢Royal Caribbean. 如果你对美食很注重、喜欢蓬松的枕头、喜欢大厕所、又爱看烟火、那你会喜欢Dream Cruise. P.S: 纯属个人意见,仅供参考。

[Use rice cooker] Steam mince pork with tofu 蒸豆腐肉饼

My mom used to cook this dish for me. It’s my comfort food. Is that yours too?
I always eat this with rice or porridge. And now I am on diet so I eat it on its own - with meat, egg and tofu, full of protein and nutrients. It’s a steam dish so it’s simple and healthy. And suitable for elderly and kids.



Ingredients:
1 unit of silky tofu  1块嫩豆腐
250gm mince pork   250克猪肉碎
1 egg   1个蛋

Seasoning:
1-2 tbsp soy sauce  一至二汤匙生抽
1 tbsp shaoxing wine  一汤匙绍兴酒
1 tsp salt    一茶匙盐
1 tsp sesame oil    一茶匙麻油
pinch of white pepper   白胡椒粉少许

Method:
1 Add all ingredients and seasoning together in a bowl and mix well.   把全部材料搅拌均匀
2. Steam in rice cooker for 15 minute.  用饭锅或其他蒸炉蒸15分钟
3. Garnish with spring onion and/or coriander. 可加葱花或香菜提味
4. Serve when hot.  记得趁热吃

P.S I used rice cooker to steam , means you can cook rice and steam this dish at the same time. Enjoy!

Quick & Healthy - Gula Melaka Avocado Milkshake 椰糖鳄梨奶昔

Have you tried Avocado Milkshake or smoothie? If not, you will fall in love with it. After taking Avocado shake at a restaurant one day, I decided to make my own. I only use 3 ingredients - avocado, gula melaka syrup and fresh milk. It is a good source of healthy fats and protein. But you can't have it everyday, just in case "fat overloaded".

According to Wikipedia, Gula Melaka is a kind of Palm sugar - a sweetener derived from any variety of palm tree. And Gula melaka is a type of palm sugar made from the sap of flower buds from the coconut palm.
In my recipe, I only use 1 and 1/2 tbsp. And according to www.myfitnesspal.com, 1 tbsp of Gula Melaka syrup is only 29 calories. As compare to 60 calories for 1 tbsp of Honey, this is definitely a healthy choice.
I bought my Gula Melaka Syrup from NTUC or Sheng Siong (see video for visual). My friend also got me 1 jar of gula melaka syrup from Malacca.

Gula Melaka Avocado Milkshake (Calories - 261)
Ingredients:
1 avocado
500-600ml Fresh milk or UHT milk
1 & 1/2 tbsp Gula Melaka Syrup

Method:
1. Cut open avocado, remove seed and skin and put flesh into blender.
2. Add 500-600ml milk
3. Add ice cube.
4. Add gula melaka syrup. Blend till turn smoothie.
5. Ready to serve.

你有喝过椰糖鳄梨奶昔吗?如果你去新加坡的小贩中心或是食阁的饮料摊位,应该很容易找到这个热带风味健康水果饮料。
要自己动作做其实也很容易,只要这三样材料:鳄梨、牛奶、椰糖浆。
同样来自大自然,不过椰糖浆的卡路里指数只有29,比起蜜糖的60要健康得多。
虽然是健康饮料,但不建议每天喝,因为鳄梨富含高脂肪,虽然是健康脂肪但也要适可而止。

做法: 将鳄梨、牛奶、冰块和椰糖浆放入搅拌机里搅拌成奶昔即可享用。

Test and Tried - Easy Poached Egg 简单水煮荷包蛋


To be honest, I seldom poached egg. As I saw some video that require one to keep stirring the water in 1 direction when add egg to pot. So I always do what I am familiar with, do soft boil egg, hard boil egg, fried egg, fried sunny side up etc, until recently I saw a simple way to do poached egg from Simplyrecipes.com/easy_poached_egg, then I again experiment this method.

Verdict: when put egg to pot, the egg white run more than the video show but I am happy with the finish product, egg white is firm enough and egg yolk is runny. Most importantly, IT IS SUPER SIMPLE AND FUSS FREE!

Update: (May not be) my Last Post here

Hi all supporters
Sorry for the long absence from this blog due to tight schedule work commitment earlier. During May 2015 till now, I hardly have time to blog, only can occasionally post on facebook page. During these "MIA" years, I noticed there are a lot of changes in the social media scene, I find it hard to catch up after not blogging for a while already. And during these time, I noticed a cooking school was opened and have used my Blog Name: Food Playground that I developed back in 2011 as their name. (Duh)
It actually take me awhile to pick up the courage to make a come back as I have lost the momentum and it will take me longer time and harder way to get back to blogging (and blogging is no longer enough to viewers)
In order not to associate my blog with the cooking school, and to differentiate my blog, I have decided to create a new blogspot address to Foodieatplayground.blogspot.com. Think this convey my message better and will help me to start pick up blogging again and add in new features to the blog, eg not just restricted to food, but also write about things I Like - It is a Foodi(EatPlay)ground. And add in youtube video and post in both facebook and IG.

Time Out: ClearSK Mother's Day Tea Party


ClearSK Mother's Day Tea Party在母亲节的周末举行。当天吸引了许多观众,几乎座无虚席。我有幸参与其中,并担任当天的司仪。


当天,ClearSK的医美董事萧医生,为了当天的下午茶会,特别带了萧妈妈到现场。在现场,她告诉观众萧妈妈年轻V脸的秘诀,并解释了最新的医学美容技术。


她也分享了面相学的几个重点,并会指引顾客那里应该整或修,才更有桃花运或好人缘。


现场也请来本地珠宝设计师Simone Ng分享如何佩戴和挑选珍珠。现场也有矿物质彩妆品牌Jane Iredale的彩妆师,在场示范如何使用矿物质彩妆品。

Eat Out: Crystal Jade Mother's Day Set Menu

说实话,孝顺母亲不应该只在母亲节。不过,趁着这个特为母亲而设的母亲节项目,让母亲感觉受宠,何乐而不为?Crystal Jade Golden Palace翡翠金阁在今年母亲节特别推出五种套餐,4人套餐为$348++至10人套餐$1338++。母亲节套餐只限从5月2日至10日为止,因此勿错失良机。

试吃了这里特别为母亲而设的套餐后,我只能说,厨师非常了解母亲要求的是什么,所以菜肴绝对做到:真材实料,养颜补身,而且让母亲吃到原汁原味的食材。


4位和10位套餐的开胃菜:潮粤四喜拼盘(卤水鸭片,油泡带子,炸蟹枣,脆皮烧肉),让母亲一次过吃到不同风味的美食:卤水鸭片配卤豆干,油泡带子配上香甜酱汁,炸蟹枣配甜甜圈状炸馒头,还有招牌菜:脆皮烧肉,每一种开胃菜都有配对酱料,母亲一定会吃得过瘾。(每份$14)
